In 1891, Dr. James Naismith created basketball for students to play indoor during the long winter. Now a day, basketball has been an international ball game. It is very popular in the world, and many students love this sports. Therefore, when some students from China have to stay in Oswego during whole long cold winter, they created this festival. It is because they think basketball is the best indoor game in winter.

After some years, this festival is more popular in the world. Many basketball fans try to celebrate this festival. They do many thing during the Day of Basketball, when is the last Saturday of December. They play basketball with others in the day and watch basketball games in the evening. The most important thing during the day is eat basketball chocolate, which is a kind of chocolate look like a basketball. People also decorate their house with the theme of basketball, such as put a basketball stands in the house. This is the Day of Basketball.
